"DO NOT SUE."
(Guidelines to Imperfection)
Try to balance your character’s positive and negative traits.
For example they can have a few activities or things that they’re good at (like crafts or drawing) but they also have some things that they can’t do (like sports or cooking). If not that, then maybe they have a health problem? For example, they don’t have much stamina?
Flaws are classified as negative traits. If your character is “clumsy” but only to be seen as cute, then that is not a flaw. “Clumsy” as a flaw would mean that they may knock people or objects over.
If not a balanced ratio -- e.g. 2 good : 2 bad or 5 good, 5 bad, then
you can try to have every 2 or 3 good traits, have one major flaw to counter them.
Major flaws can be classified as flaws that could get your character in trouble or generally get some kind of negative consequence.
Keep in mind that a positive trait could also be a negative trait. To put myself on the spot, RiShi is a character that is very determined to reach her goals. While this sounds quite positive, in certain cases, her motivations and goals may get her to butt with the wrong heads.
Also,
if your character has flaws that could hinder them from performing or doing some kind of activity, please keep in character and do not have them “magically” just get over it or have contradicting statements.
For example: “They have stagefright, but it suddenly disappears when in a certain situation” or “They are low in stamina, but they are an amazing dancer.”
In your original character's bio, only include things --memories, events -- that relate to the premise.
Of course, it is your character's story and you can be as detailed as you'd like, but
don’t go off topic! Your character's bio is the root you plant for character development;
if your root is weak, growth will not happen. Things to consider to include in your character's bio are place of origin, family, hobbies and interests, and motivations.
Do not base your original character off another character from the anime or any other show, series, or franchise.
If it’s basically another character from somewhere else,
it’s not YOUR original character.
Try not to self-insert also. While it is perfectly fine to base traits of a character off yourself, it is not recommended to fully insert yourself into this world.
Try not to have your original character related to any in-series characters.
Actual romantic relationships with in-series characters are also not recommended.
If your character is of a different nationality from the setting, explain why they are in this differing setting.
